Day 60. Winning DietBet #2.

Yesterday was the last official day of my second DietBet game of this year. Today was the beginning of the "weigh-out," which is the two day period following the end of any DietBet game. If you wake up at the end of the game and find that you're not quite at goal when you were expecting to be, you still have a second/final day to fast or walk six miles or whatever. Here's where I was this morning:

I was a little nervous about making the goal this time. First, I started the game late by almost a full week. This Kickstarter game was four weeks long, which meant I had only three weeks to lose 4% of my body weight. DietBet even warned me that it would be harder when I was registering, but I went for it anyway. I knew I was going to use my winnings from the first DietBet to pay the bet and as soon as I saw them hit my account I joined the game. Second, I wasn't as active in the community as I was in the first bet. Accountability is important, and I've noticed that I've been slipping from time to time since Mindblown started. This is where keeping my daily notebook has helped. Even when I slip I write everything down so at least I'm staying accountable somewhere in my life. I'm also part of a third game that's running right now, and I'm going to be more involved with that community until that game ends on March 11. Finally, I've allowed myself to reintroduce several more foods into my diet that I had abandoned in January. This includes the occasional pizza, one of which we had last night and made me nervous about today.

Since I was within the goal range before my daily walk, I took two pictures of my scale, one reading 303.4 in the digital display and the second of me standing on it. Both of these were taken using the DietBet app, which then allowed me to submit both pictures to be verified. The picture with the scale also contained a special weigh-out code word written on a piece of paper. After the weigh-out was submitted, I got an email confirming that it had been received.

I went on my walk and got back about an hour later, then jumped on the scale to discover that my weight is now 301.3. I'm really excited about this, not only because I'm doing better than I thought, but also because I'm so close to being out of the 300s for the first time in over ten years. I don't know how I'm going to react to seeing 299 on that scale. I'm just days away from that number and it's super motivating!

Not too long after submission I heard back from DietBet and learned that the game referees had verified my weight. I am an official winner of my second DietBet!
Project 43 had only one goal: lose 25 pounds by January 31. There were times during that month that the goal seemed so far away. Changing up Mindblown and planning a mini-goal every week, along with a couple of bonus DietBet goals mixed in, has been crucial to my success during this second phase. With only two weeks left until the beginning of Mission 44's third phase , I'm very happy to be finding success with staying on track and losing weight.

See you tomorrow!

General disclaimers: In my posts I describe things that I am doing to reclaim my health based on what I know about myself. Please don't emulate my actions. I'm not a doctor, and when you read things in my blog they are not meant as advice to you or anyone else. They are simply a record of my own experience. Things like abandoning prescribed medicines and walking for miles while dealing with morbid obesity are bad ideas, but I'm an idiot and do them anyway. Don't be like me. Talk to your doctor before making major lifestyle changes, please.
